Frequently Asked Questions

At Tailwheels ETC, we've done our best to create a Web site that anticipates and satisfies our customers' needs. With that goal in mind, we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions. If you do not find an answer to your question here, contact us at 863-327-6880 or jamundsen@tampabay.rr.com

Q. As far as a training aircraft I don't feel I will fit very well in a 152 as I am 6'2" and 210 lbs. (OK, maybe 220) I am not familiar with a Cessna 172, does it have a larger cockpit than a 152?

A. The Cessna 172 is a 4 seat trainer with 180 hp. It is very stable and a good fit for the larger pilot. It is very comfortable. We do a lot of our training in a 172.

Q. How is insurance covered for your aircraft? Am I covered if I do something stupid and break something?

A. We provide insurance on all of our planes. If you damage the aircraft and it is your fault then you are responsible for the deductible amount. We recommend that students purchase rental insurance. Its very reasonable and can be purchased from most aircraft insurers.

Q. What kind of deposit to secure a time slot do you require? In what form of payment do you prefer?

A. We get a $500 deposit to reserve a time slot and we take cash, check or credit card.(Master Card, Visa, AMEX, Discover).

Q. Is any portion of the deposit refundable if I am unable to attend flight training?

A. Sorry no. We are setting aside a time period just for you. We are also sending study materials to you as well. We will reschedule your time slot if you are not able to come at your desired time.

Q. Is 2 weeks really enough time to complete a private pilots license? Many of my friends tell me it takes longer.

A. Yes, most of our student are able to complete the training in 14-16 days however on occasion we have a student who takes longer, we will continue to work with you (within reason) until you are finished. Should you find it necessary to leave during the 2-week training, all training up to that point, flight and ground, will convert to hourly pricing. All training, upon your return, will be charged at hourly pricing. This will also apply to students, who cannot finish due to lack of motivation or inablity to learn the alloted time.

Q. Where can I stay while doing the training?

A. There are a number of hotels in the area that will give our students special rates from $35-75 / night or $250-500 per week. We also recommend air condos, which are luxury homes with pools.

Q. What type of aircraft do you use for training?

A. We have several aircraft to choose from: Cessna 150, Cessna 152, Cessna 172, Cessna 172SP, Cessna 172 G1000, Piper Warrior, Piper Arrow, Piper Apache (multi), Piper Champ

Q. Are there any surcharges or hidden fees?

A. We do not believe in surcharges or hidden fees. All of our Instruction is billed out by the package price only or the hours flown or spent in ground school.
