Flight Instructor - Tom Rich
- Commercial Pilot ASEL
Tom has always had a lifelong passion for aviation.
This passion first developed when he took a ride in a Cessna 172 while in 5th grade. During his teen years, he could often be found at an airport just to watch airliners take off and land. He also frequented the Dayton Air Show and the U.S. Air Force Museum. Although he loved aviation, life took him down a different path.
In 2006, he graduated from Indiana Tech with a B.S. in Business. Following graduation, he took a promotion with his company and decided to try a career in management. After 12 years in logistics and operations management, he was ready for a change…..It was time to pursue his dream of a career in aviation!
Tom, his wife and 2 year old daughter moved from the Midwest to Lakeland in early 2015 to attend the accelerated program at Tailwheels, Etc. After much research and prayer, he believed that this school would give him the best piloting skills and the greatest success. Beginning his training in March, he completed his Private, Instrument, Commercial, and Flight Instructor Certificates. Demonstrating proficiency in his training in November 2015 led to him being successfully hired as a flight instructor.
Tom enjoys the outdoors, international travel, spending time with his family and attending church. After visiting Haiti on a mission trip in 2005, he gained a desire to help others on a new level. In the long-term future, he would like to utilize his skills in aviation in a humanitarian organization. In the near future he hopes to fly for the airlines.
